The Non-Governmental Organization “Country of Free People” together with the French international organization “Triangle” and with the support of UNICEF organized and launched another voucher project “Mitigating the consequences of the conflict for vulnerable households living along the line of conflict by providing basic hygiene items and supporting the local economy”.
The aim of the project is to support and provide the population with hygiene products and household chemicals, to help in the development of small business. Mostly beneficiaries were low-income elderly people below the poverty line.
Due to the program, each low-income family received 2 e-vouchers, which they can realize within 2 months in the project partner stores; the undoubted advantage is the availability of stores within walking distance.
The amount of the voucher varied depending on the composition of the family, the presence of children under 4 years old, the disabled people, and the elderly people. Vouchers cover the cost of hygiene items and household chemicals.
In addition to low-income families, vouchers were also received by 29 schools, kindergartens and social institutions (homes for elderly people, psychoneurological dispensary) located along the contact line.
The advantages of the program lie in support of the local economy and small business, because most of the stores closed right after the outbreak of military actions, and it is important to support those who stayed as much as possible.
The project extends to populated areas along the contact line in controlled territory (0-10 km from the line), Bakhmut and Yasynuvata Raions of the Donetsk region, Popasna Raion of the Luhansk region. Today, due to the project, more than 3,600 families have received assistance. From December 26, 2016, the second phase of this project implementation begins.
